According to a press release, the plan for VA benefits and compensation includes allowing all veterans back into the VA, creating a "zero tolerance" policy for veterans falling into homelessness and cracking down on employers who commit job discrimination against guardsmen and reservists.
Obama also discussed the quality of health care for veterans, rebuilding the VA's broken benefits system, and combating homelessness among veterans. He aims to aid service members by ensuring seamless transition from military to civilian life, fully funding VA medical care and hiring additional claims workers, and improving training and accountability so that VA benefit decisions are rated fairly and consistently.
Obama also unveiled a plan to improve mental health treatment for troops and veterans suffering from combat-related psychological injuries. In his plan, he will propose recruiting more health professionals, improve screening, offer more support to families and make PTSD benefits claims fairer. Finally, his plan hopes to expand and strengthen Vet Centers.
This plan comes only a few months after a study showed that an increasing number of U.S. troops have left the military with damaged bodies and minds and that there is a growing collection of disabled veterans. Despite the decline in the total number of veterans, the government expects to be spending $59 billion a year to compensate injured veterans in the next 25 years, up from today's $29 billion, according to the Associated Press.
The Veterans Law Group, a law firm exclusively representing disabled veterans, has garnered experience and understanding in VA compensation benefits. Many have fought for deserved VA compensation benefits with the Department of Veterans Affairs for years.
