FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) –
Oct 06, 2008 – PHOENIX, AZ: Getting one’s teeth into New York City’s Fashion Week is every stylist’s dream job. For years it’s been a regular gig for Phoenix stylist and coiffure artist, Salvador Calvano. Booked to style for designers Milly, Tibi, Richard Chai, Proenza Schouler and Juan Carlos Obando, Calvano couldn’t wait to get back to his roots in fashion. This time, The Big Apple took a bite out of Calvano. Literally.
Before heading into the backstage chaos of styling the models’ hair for the Spring 2009 collection runway shows, Calvano made a side trip to his agent’s office and ended up in the E.R. “I’m always excited to be back in New York,” said Calvano. “And it’s part of my routine to check in with my agent any time I am in town. This time, one of the bookers had her pitbull mix, Ruby, in the office. I love dogs, so I didn’t think anything of it. Ruby was great, right up until she spotted a delivery guy she didn’t like, got agitated and ended up taking a huge bite out of my right hand.” Calvano ended up visiting the E.R. to get stitched up, finally being released in the wee hours of the morning of the first shows he was booked to style. “It was really intimidating at first,” laughed Calvano. “My hand was all bandaged up, stiff, sore and still bleeding at times. True to form, Calvano managed to work despite the injury and create unique styles for each of the shows he worked. “It reminded me of Steve Nash in the playoffs. There are times you just don’t quit.” “My favorite show was Milly. The clothes had a very late 60s early 70s retro feel, and the hair was equally retro, but with a 21st century twist. From the diversity of the collections, Spring and Summer 2009 are going to be great. “As much as I love NYC and the Fashion scene, there is no place like home,” Calvano concluded. Yes, it’s true. Calvano’s talents are not just for supermodels, celebrities and designers – the Salvador Calvano salon is located in a renovated olive warehouse at 2505 N. 7th Street in Phoenix. The walls are dotted with a stunning range of photos by Salvador; his portfolios spotlight covers, fashion shows and the artistic stylings of his remarkable career. His guitar sits nearby, waiting for him to pick it up in a spare moment to play and sing. Clearly, Phoenix has a true artist in its midst, dedicated to making the world a more beautiful place. Even if he has to do it with one hand. Cuts and color by appointment only. Call 602.263.1138 or visit www.hairpeace.com for more details. Now celebrating his 20th year in the hair and fashion business, Calvano’s career has taken him from hotspots like Miami, Los Angeles, Paris and New York to shoots in exotic locations like Italy, Vietnam, Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador, plus many points in between. His portfolio includes covers and fashion spreads in virtually every major fashion magazine.
