FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Oct 06, 2008 – Pune: Dun & Bradstreet, the world’s leading provider of global business information, knowledge and insight, in association with Fullerton India today announced the ‘Dun & Bradstreet – Fullerton India SME Awards 2008’ to recognize the contribution of SMEs across ten sectors to the Indian economy.
Dun & Bradstreet India also launched the inaugural edition of ‘Emerging SMEs of India 2008’ which features prominent SMEs in India across these 10 sectors in two revenue categories. The study profiles the winners and runners up across these sectors and a listing of other participating SMEs based on various parameters.

Speaking at the awards, Dr. Manoj Vaish, President & CEO – India, Dun & Bradstreet said, “D&B recognises that small and medium enterprises play a pivotal role in the economic development of the country. The awards and publication were conceptualized keeping in mind the growing contribution of SMEs to the Indian economy. Our study revealed that for the sample considered, net sales for medium-sized companies grew by as much as 37% year-on-year in FY07, as compared to a 32% growth for small sized companies. However, in terms of net profit, small-sized firms turned out to be more resilient with 58% y-o-y growth as compared to 26% growth for medium-sized firms.”
“The growing domestic economy and globalization have resulted into ever increasing business opportunities for SMEs, and they are expected to play a much larger role in sustaining India’s growth aspirations. We hope that Dun & Bradstreet – Fullerton India SME Awards 2008 and the accompanying publication will enhance the growth efforts of these companies by aiding them in reaching out to their current and potential customers,” he added.
The publication, ‘Emerging SMEs of India 2008’ was released by Mr. Dinesh Rai, IAS, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

‘Dun & Bradstreet – Fullerton India SME Awards 2008’

The award were conceptualized to recognize emerging SMEs across ten sectors viz., auto components; chemicals and petrochemicals; engineering goods; food and agro products (including horticulture and floriculture); gems and jewellery; IT and ITeS; leather and leather products; pharmaceuticals; plastics (including goods and processing); and textiles. The awards, in conjunction with the publication Emerging SMEs of India 2008, highlight the achievements of leading SMEs in their respective sectors.

Since these awards seek to recognise the growth of SMEs, the short-listing criterion chosen was net turnover of the companies. Further, the annual net turnover for manufacturing companies was fixed to less than Rs 1,000 mn and that for services, at less than Rs 100 mn for FY07. Based on the annual net turnover, each sector has been further sub-divided into small and medium categories. The small category pertains to manufacturing companies with net turnover below Rs 500 mn while the medium category refers to companies with net turnover in the range of 500.01 – 1,000 mn. For the IT-ITeS sector, the small category includes companies with net turnover below Rs 50 mn while those in the range of Rs 50.01 – 100 mn are categorised in the medium category. The awards were based on self nomination. Awards winners were chosen in individual revenue categories of each sector. Additionally, one emerging award winner was chosen across all the ten sectors.
