Aliquippa, Pennsylvania welcomes home Darrelle Rives of the NY Jets

(Oct. 2nd, New York, NY) In every athlete’s life, there comes a time in which he has to hang his jersey. It usually marks a sad day for the athlete, but not for Darrelle Revis, Cornerback for the NY Jets. On October 3rd, 2008, Revis will be honored at his High School, Aliquippa High School in Pensylvania by hanging up his #2 jersey. “To have my jersey up in the halls of a place that means so much to me is amazing. I’m completely humbled to have my jersey number hung up,” Darrelle said in a statement. “Growing up, all I wanted was to be a great athlete. I am honored to have been surrounded by so many great people who had such a positive influence on my development. This is definitely an honor that really is special to me and my family. It means so much to me.”

On July 14th 1985, Darrelle Revis made a miraculous entrance into this world to parents Diana Gilbert and Darryl Revis. Because of the long line of athletes in his family,Darelle began to play sports at a young age.  He was exceptional in football but also showed out in basketball and track. He was one of Pennsylvania's most agile and versatile talents, Darrelle played quarterback, tailback, receiver, cornerback and kick returner during his senior season at Alquippa. Some of his high school accolades include being named the Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AA Player of the Year and first-team Pennsylvania Class AA All-State; he was chosen to be the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review 2003 Player of the Year, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 2003 WPIAL Class AA Player of the Year. His senior year he was selected to play in the Big 33 Football Classic after he compiled 1,637 total yards and 13 touchdowns. That season, he led Aliquippa High School to the Pennsylvania Class AA championship where they won the WPIAL Class AA title. With so many practices and games one would think that he inhaled and exhaled sports but Darrelle made time to be part of school activities. He was a member of the Spanish Club and the Yearbook Club and made sure to attend the meetings.

If you ask Darrelle how a 22 year old  can be so focused on his goals and not get side-swiped he will say, “remembering my mother's advice on that first day of camp, she said, it doesn’t matter how big you are, what size you are, where you come from. You can accomplish things in life. You can overcome things.”
