Virtual public school grows enrollment by 20% for '08-09 school year

The new faculty members will serve students across Minnesota; with several hired to address the growing student body in the Duluth area.

Online education is one of the fastest growing options in K-12 schooling in the United States today. The rapid and steady rise in Minnesota Connections Academy enrollment, 20% for the ‘08-‘09 school year, shows there is a permanent and needed place for online education for students of all grade levels and abilities in Minnesota.

This growing enrollment and interest in cyber education has led MTSMCA to hire 10 additional faculty members:

Andrea Cacek, Advisory and Art teacher
Scott Dickie, High School Math teacher
Michele Giles, High School Science
Melissa Gould, Assistant Principal
Adam Greengard, Sub-Advisory and Social Studies teacher
Lisa Jacobson-Flood, Middle School and High School English
Jesse Rorvig, School Counselor
Shawn Stewart, Elementary teacher
Sarah Vanden Bosch, Special Education teacher
Katie Vanden Busch, Administrative Assistant

“We’re excited about the continued enrollment growth for Minnesota Connections Academy,” said Melissa Nelson, Principal, MTS Minnesota Connections Academy. “Our new faculty members are wonderful, and will help us provide a better learning experience to more than 700 students and their families.”

Minnesota Connections Academy, http://www.ConnectionsAcademy.com, with its headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn., combines state-certified teachers, high-quality curriculum, unique technology tools, an extensive selection of electives and clubs and community experiences to create an individualized alternative to the brick-and-mortar classroom. The curriculum is aligned to meet or exceed Minnesota academic standards. Students also participate in state standardized testing.

Connections Academy is designed to meet the needs of students and their families who are looking for another option—those who need a flexible schedule, learn at a different pace from their peers, need more individualized attention or live in isolated rural settings. Connections Academy operates its full-time Internet school program in Minnesota through a partnership with Minnesota Transitions Charter School.
