FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Oct 02, 2008 – The duel filmed for the internet entailed Don running overland from tube station to tube station sticking to London’s road network and even having to stop at red lights. Meanwhile he was racing a London Underground tube train in real time taking the more direct route under London. Amazingly, Don triumphed, and the TUBE RACE’s organisers (leading technical sports shoe and clothing brand ASICS) are hoping his heroics will serve to inspire at least some of London’s millions of commuters to pull on their ASICS and run or walk to work rather than taking the train, bus or tube.

Of the race, Don says, “We all know that exercise is an essential part of our lives, whether we’re running simply for fitness or for competition. Running or walking to work is the perfect way for people to combine exercise in their daily routine, no matter how busy they may be. The tube’s a great form of transport, but it’s hardly the most comfortable or beneficial. So strap on your ASICS and get out there!”

The ASICS TUBE RACE was hosted to celebrate the launch of the first ASICS store outside of Japan  (opening in Argyll Street W1, in the heart of London’s West end, on 3rd October 2008). The new, hi-tech just under 4,000 sq ft store is dedicated to running and a host of other sports catered for by ASICS.

Now the general public is also invited to join the ASICS TUBE RACE in-store at ASICS Argyll Street. The in-store race starts at 10:00am on the morning of Friday 3rd October 2008 and continues until 7.00pm on the evening of Friday 17th October 2008 (during store opening times, on a first come first served basis). The in-store race will be run on a specially calibrated treadmill tracked against a train that has traveled a section of the Circle Line, with progress mapped and final times entered onto a leader board. Choose between either Tower Hill to St. James’s Park (5 km), Great Portland Street to Paddington (3 km) or Baker Street to Edgware Road (1 km). Participation is free.

To find out more about the ASICS Tube Race and how to participate you can visit the dedicated ASICS Tube Race microsite at www.asicstuberace.com - that goes live on the 3rd October. It will host running information, stats and facts - plus you can watch the film of Tim Don as he battles against the Circle Line!

Tim Don, an ASICS Ambassador, is recognised as the face of British Triathlon – a World Champion and fierce competitor for more than 15 years.  He is known for his willingness to take a race by the scruff of its neck, attacking aggressively to achieve podium finishes. He won the World Junior Triathlon in 19998 and the pinnacle of his career to date came in 2006 when he claimed the World Triathlon Championship title. Tim now inspires young triathletes to follow in his footsteps and stressed London Commuters to get out of the train and into their trainers to take on London’s streets!
