This year's conference had the theme of "Planning for the Future" and challenged the senior enlisted Coast Guard hierarchy in attendance to develop plans to ensure the continued success of the Coast Guard mission during this time of global conflict in the War on Terror.
While at the conference, Dicks spoke with the Command Master Chiefs about personal financial issues that are important to them, their families and the junior members who work for them. He expressed his appreciation to the MCPOCG who graciously invited him to attend and express his passion about their personal financial well-being. "In these difficult economic times, it has never been more important to pay extra attention to our personal financial lives. To set goals, to watch and direct our investments' growth; these are the issues that must be remembered in order to plan for a solid and secure retirement. The Command Master Chiefs here today will take this information and share it with their subordinates when they return home."
The MCPOCG is appointed by the Commandant of the Coast Guard to serve as a spokesperson to represent the issues of enlisted personnel to the highest levels of the Coast Guard. The MCPOCG's duties vary; depending on the Commandant, and devotes a lot of time traveling to Coast Guard installations globally observing training and communicating with the military members and their families. The normal tour of duty is four years, which runs concurrently with the Commandant of the Coast Guard.
