The campaign was originally begun in the UK in 2007 by Sally Radford a single mother and was brought to Australia by Adrian Bertolini as a result of his participation in the programmes of Landmark Education, a global leader in the training and development industry that empowers people to create projects that make a difference in the world.
The campaign is designed for Australians to realize they not only have an easy way to reduce CO2 emissions, but that by doing so they will save up to 37 days of electricity per year.
Standby Saturday 24/7 will see the first Australian nationwide “All the time – Every time” switch-off of non-essential electrical appliances and equipment, such as TVs, computers, microwaves, stereos, playstations, and mobile phone chargers, with the aim of significantly reducing Australia’s carbon emissions. Many people do not realize flashing red lights, microwave clocks, printers left on all waste money and warm the planet.
This campaign is the first in a series of Global initiatives as Standby Saturday events occur worldwide. To join the campaign, learn more about standby, download lesson plans and software for free or you can register at http://www.standbysaturday.com.au/
