FINE WINES AND WALNUT TREES
The true Burgundy lifestyle
Life in the Burgundy region of France is very fine. Ancient buildings amid sunny, hillside vineyards have stood the test of time. As other regions of France become overpriced and crowded, the lesser known villages are coming into their own.
Collette Thomas left her home in the north of England two years ago, an interior designer
newly trained as a plasterer, set to work on her 1850s, four bedroom winegrower’s house in the village of Cheilly les Maranges. The renovations are now complete and Collette is taking
advantage of the fast train and motorway connections to get to know Paris and Geneva.
Walking from the village lane through the gated patio garden up to the front door there is an elegance about Collette’s house that is not often found: “It was a huge amount of work but I was motivated by the idea of my four grown up children with their own families coming to visit.”
“They all enjoy the relaxed atmosphere plus the possibility of having a good time here” Collette continued. “There are lovely walks and castles all around.”
However, always eager for a challenge, this is Collette’s last year in France as she sets her sights on Rome and a study of ancient art and music.
