"I am delighted to see that the efforts of so many clubs in Clare have been rewarded. Sport and recreation is a vital component in a healthy and active lifestyle and this funding is a testament to those volunteers who are the very heart of sporting clubs in Clare and indeed throughout Ireland", commented Minister Killeen.
The sports capital programme, administered by the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism, provides funding towards the provision of facilities and equipment for sports clubs throughout Ireland with the clubs matching the funds provided under the scheme.
According to Minister Killeen, "It is extremely important that we continue to provide the necessary sports infrastructure and facilities, particularly for our young people, so as to encourage active participation by as many people as possible. The benefits of participation in sport go beyond improvements in people's fitness but contribute to developing a healthy lifestyle."
"This Government will continue to invest in sport in this country and I will continue to work hard to ensure that Clare gets its fair share of this investment in the future", concluded Minister Killeen.
